Abstract

Gender violence is a problem throughout the world. This reality has endangered the human rights causing serious repercussions on mental and physical health. Among the measures imposed to stop the spread of the pandemic caused by COVID – 19, Ecuador implemented mandatory confinement for non-essential activities on March 17, 2020. The situation of social isolation increased direct coexistence within homes and the flourishing of social problems. This work analyzes gender violence during social isolation in the face of the health emergency due to COVID – 19 in Ecuador. A qualitative methodology was proposed with a documentary investigation. The results indicate an increase in emergency calls referring to gender violence but a decrease in complaints about this fact. In conclusion, although there has been an increase in calls for help, victims of violence may be unable to obtain means of escape and relief to make the respective complaints due to the impossibility of leaving their homes.
